Hamilton rugby club members are tamed in coaching weekend

NINETEEN members of Hamilton Rugby Club took part in a weekend of rugby at Kilbowie Outdoor Centre in Oban recently.

The activity came as Glasgow Chiefs’ under-16 SRU Pathway squad enjoyed a weekend of team-bonding and training.

Away for the weekend were nine of the under-16 squad for the 2009-10 season, and they were joined by the Lanarkshire Lions under-15 Pathway squad, comprising another two members of the under-16 squad and eight players from next season’s under-15 squad.

Hamilton players in the Lions squad were Robert Brown, Calum Crozier, Ross McQueen, Stuart Murray, Kyle Reid, Kyle Richmond, Adam Ryan, Nicky Stannage, Kris Stark and David Stirrat.

The Chiefs squad included Douglas McWhirter, Calder Dallas, Jamie Patterson, Martin Kennedy, Scott Whiteside, Matt Porter, Scott Murray, Marc Rodgers and Andy Wilson. Darren Carr is also in the Chiefs squad but couldn’t attend the Kilbowie weekend.

Activities included Nightline, where the boys had to manoeuvre through the woods blindfolded, and gorge-walking.

They also had some intensive training before facing their Pathway counterparts on the Sunday.

The Lions went down fighting against a strong Tigers side, losing 32-19.

Despite the defeat they competed well against a team that had six players from the Tigers’ under-16s playing.

Lions played well and Hamilton’s Kris Stark scored one of their tries.

In the under-16 match the Chiefs were in fine form and beat Tigers 26-7, with all of their points coming from Hamilton players.

Jamie Patterson scored two tries, with one each from Scott Murray and Marc Rodgers. Andy Wilson converted two, with Scott Whiteside slotting another conversion.
