HAMILTON Rugby Club brought a frustrating season to an end when they held their annual players’ lunch and awards.
As always, the event was a boisterous occasion as players from Hamilton’s three senior sides joined coaches, backroom staff and supporters in the clubhouse, where everyone enjoyed an excellent meal provided by club manager Nick Schaschke and his volunteer helpers.
Club coach Ian Morrison introduced the various awards and the video for ‘try of the season’.
The Player of the Season award went to Nick Risdon, but as he has already returned to New Zealand, Craig Inglis accepted the trophy on his behalf and he’ll deliver it when he travels to New Zealand this week.
Most Improved 1st XV Player was John Selfridge, and the Supporters’ Player of the Year award went to new captain Richie Maxton.
For the 2nd XV, captain Tony Malley won Player of the Year and Alan Whyte took Young Player of the Year.
The annual award presented to a club member in recognition of work on behalf of the 1st XV went to George Campbell, while Andy Macfee picked up the Try of the Season award for his solo effort against Stewart’s Melville.
Finally, president Donald Woodrow accepted a gift from Ross Inglis of his first international jersey, which he won representing Scotland Under-19s against their England counterparts in April.
