Rugby youngsters pick up top awards

HAMILTON Rugby Club last weekend held their annual Family Fun Day, with a large crowd enjoying the festivities at Laigh Bent.

There were games for adults and children, followed by the midi-rugby and mini-rugby awards for the season.

This was followed by a family disco, with music from John Jannoway.

Winners in the various categories were:

Jamie McPhee Trophy: Ross Inglis.

Under-16: Coaches’ Player of the Year: Niall McWhinney. Players’ Player of the Year: Alan Keatt. Most Improved Player: Greg Richardson. Best Newcomer: Fraser Stewart.

Under-15: Player of the Year: Jamie Paterson. Runner-up: Robert Brown. Most Improved Players: Kris Stark and Darren Carr.

S2: Coaches’ Player of the Year: Stuart Murray. Players’ Player of the Year: Stuart Murray. Most Improved Player: Ryan Meddicks. Best Newcomer: Liam McAulley.

S1: Best Newcomer: Allan Goldie. Most Improved Player: Thomas Brown. Best Back: Daniel McRoberts. Best Forward: Adam Wilmot.

P6: Coaches’ Player of the Year: Ross McLaren. Players’ Player of the Year: Dominic McRoberts. Most Improved Players: Euan Whelan and Grant Wrisberg. Best Newcomer: Robert Gallacher.

P5: Player of the Year: William Brown. Players’ Player of the Year: Calum Alexander. Best Newcomer: Torin MacGregor.
