Clydesdale keep in touch with leaders

CLYDESDALE kept the pressure on league leaders and derby rivals Lanark with a comprehensive 43-3 win over Renfrew in the Scottish Hydro Electric West League Division Three.

Renfrew arrived in attacking mood and dominated the opening 20 minutes.

The visitors thought they had scored when Graeme Smillie touched down, but was judged to have had a foot in touch when crossing, so the ‘score’ was rescinded.

All Renfrew had to show for that period was a Seamus Brennan penalty.

But Clydesdale stepped up a gear and grabbed their first try through Scott Millar.

The hosts would add another two, with Adam Deuchar grabbing a double before half-time for a 15-3 score.

Clydesdale turned the screw in the second half, running in four tries.

Adam Deuchar completed his hat-trick, while David Deuchar, Graeme Cole and Colin Scott added singles.

David converted his own try, with Adam converting the other three.

Clydesdale head for a top-of-the-table clash at Lanark on Saturday. Kick-off at the Racecourse is at 2pm.
