Rain fails to stop the play as summer club kids have a ball

THREE days of miserable weather failed to dampen spirits during Hamilton Rugby Club’s summer camp, as 84 youngsters aged eight-16 turned up to take part.

A group of 10 young coaches, supervised by 2nd XV coach Alex Reid, put on a mixed programme, which was designed to improve skills, fitness and knowledge of the game.

The programme comprised of four one-hour sessions of fun and games each day, with a break at lunchtime when club manager Nick Schaschke ensured everyone sat down to a warm and healthy meal.

This year’s camp was subsidised by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund – Awards for All programme, which was submitted in partnership with the South Lanarkshire Active Schools team.

A Hamilton Rugby Club spokesperson said: “It was really good to see the kids continue to train in the rain with smiles on their faces, and come back each day.

“A great time was had by all and plans are already underway for 2009; hopefully this will encourage more youngsters to commit to the sport.

“The organisers would also like to thank the coaches and club staff for making the camp a great success.
