Biggar are also continuing their search for a new first XV coach, and a number of individuals have been approached with a view to being considered for the post.

While all have expressed an interest, the distance in travelling has been a major stumbling block for filling the position.

However, a spokesperson for the club said that interviews will continue for this post,

Meanwhile, the development officer vacancy at the club has been filled, with an announcement planned within the next few weeks.

This is also an important position, and is being funded jointly by the SRU, Biggar, Sportsmatch and local businesses, explained the club spokesperson.

A number of club coaches have undertaken updates on previous courses, and the coaching set-up for the mini and midi section is now complete.

Following successful PR events at Biggar and Carnwath Shows, the club is hosting an open day at Hartree Mill on Saturday, August 23, with a number of attractions on offer to visitors.

The day will be rounded off when the first XV entertain Cambuslang Rugby Club n their final pre-season game before the visit of Gala on August 30, when the Scottish Hydro-Electric Premier 2 campaign begins.

Memberships are now also due, and players are particularly reminded of the need to become a full member, as failure to do so means they are not covered under the SRU Insurance Scheme.

At this time of year, Biggar would also like to launch their annual plea for anybody who may wish to support the club through sponsorship, or time to assist with day-to-day running of the club.

New president Roy Weller would be delighted to hear from anybody who would like to contribute in any way and would be very happy to meet for a chat.
