Uddingston go up to West Division One

UDDINGSTON Rugby Club gained promotion to the Scottish Hydro Electric West League Division One on Saturday without kicking a ball.

Promotion rivals Paisley needed to take two points from champions Clydebank to overtake the Villagers but their hopes were dahsed when they lost 30-27.

Meanwhile, principal office-bearers appointed at Uddingston’s AGM were: President: Chris Welsh; vice-president: Colin Pettigrew; secretary: Robert Belmore; treasurer: Martin Kelly; match/fixture secretary: Dougie Belmore; captain: Stevie Bremner; vice-captain: Bruce McKirdy.

Over 180 boys and girls descended on Bothwell Castle Policies on Sunday for the club’s mini tournament. Winners were: P3 - Uddingston; P4 - Cambuslang; P5 - Cambuslang; P6 - Uddingston; P7 - Uddingston.

Uddingston’s mini section will take part in tournaments at Strathaven on Saturday, and Kilmarnock the following day.
