Lanarkshire Cup revived

CLUBS will this month compete for the Lanarkshire Cup for the first time in several years.

On Saturday, May 17, Hamilton, Biggar, Uddingston, Dalziel, Strathaven, Lanark, East Kilbride and Waysiders/Drumpellier will descend on host club Cambuslang for the 15-a-side tournament.

Cumbernauld have yet to confirm if they will take part, with a Cambuslang 2nd XV possibly taking their place if they don’t.

Money raised during the tournament will go towards the Ciaran Pryce Appeal Fund in aid of a Cambuslang youngster who was hospitalised with a serious neck injury while playing for Cathkin High School last year.

There will be two pools of five teams, in a round-robin format, with games lasting 15 minutes in total.

Winners of each pool will play off to decide the winner of the Lanarkshire Cup, with runners-up playing for the Plate.

The one-day tournament takes place at Coats Park, Cambuslang, from 1pm onwards, and admission is by donation to the appeal fund.
