REACHING the final of the Scottish Hydro-Electric Bowl competition could net Dalziel Rugby Club a significant cash boost.
Scottish Rugby Union chiefs this week announced that for the second year running, all eight teams involved in Finals Day at Murrayfield on May 3 will get to keep cash raised through ticket sales.
Dalziel travel to Linlithgow on Saturday, looking to secure their final place, in a game with a 3pm kick-off.
Last season’s beaten Shield finalists Garnock took nine supporters’ buses to Murrayfield last year and raised over £5000 through the ticket sales scheme.
Should Dalziel make it to the final, tickets are available from £10 or £5 concessions (OAPs, students, under-18s), and can be obtained by contacting the club.
With no game at the weekend, some Dalziel selectors took in Linlithgow’s Scottish Hydro-Electric National League Division Two match at Kilmarnock, which they lost 22-7.
Ten Dalziel players travelled south for the Dumfries Sevens tournament, but lost their two games and didn’t progress further.
Some others played a 2nd XV friendly against Cartha Queen’s Park, with Vic Czarnocki scoring a try and Barry Turnbull kicking three conversions as Dalziel ran out 26-3 winners.
