WITH one match remaining, Dalziel are destined to finish their Scottish Hydro-Electric National League One season in fifth spot after taking a losing bonus point from Saturday’s defeat.
Dalziel had enough possession to win his match but failure to turn pressure into points returned to haunt them.
RHC started at a frantic pace that saw Dalziel overwhelmed and they scored the only try of the game inside the opening 10 minutes, with Duncan Sherman taking the honours. Mark Maiden’s conversion put the hosts 7-0 ahead.
Steven Paton went close to scoring for Dalziel but knocked -on in his effort to pick up the ball from his own kick-and-chase and the chance was lost.
On the opposite wing, Vic Czarnocki also went close and unusually missed two kickable penalties before the half-time whistle blew.
Dalziel started the second half with their forwards in full control but couldn’t find a way through the RHC defence and their points came from the boot of Andy Hill.
With just minutes remaining a loose ball was intercepted by RHC and as their backs raced forward, Dalziel were penalised for a shoulder charge and Maiden slotted the points to complete the scoring.
On Saturday, Dalziel entertain Fintry side Strathendrick in the Scottish Hydro Electric Bowl quarter-final. Kick-off is at 3pm.
