DALZIEL pushed their way up into fifth spot in the Scottish Hydro-Electric National League Division One with a comfortable win over derby rivals East Kilbride.
Dalziel also collected an all-important bonus point as they push for a top-four finish.
Dalziel opened the scoring early on when they won a lineout on halfway.
Ball was fed wide along the backs and Robert Simpson’s intrusion at pace saw him sprint past the defence and score in the corner.
However, East Kilbride quickly took the lead through a Bert Blackwood penalty and a converted try by Callum Simpson.
Dalziel edged in front again just before half-time when Andy McLatchie picked up at a scrum and made up some ground before setting up a ruck.
A series of driving mauls culminated in wing-forward Grant Ferguson scoring between the posts and young stand-off John Harris kicking the conversion.
In the second half, Dalziel’s forwards dominated the lineout and attacked with pace. From one of these passages of play, Ferguson scored his second try of the afternoon, with Harris again converting for 19-10.
A series of exchanges between the backs and forwards saw Vic Czarnocki race for the corner before being stopped but Barry Turnbull collected the pass before crashing over for Dalziel’s fourth try.
Dalziel’s fifth try was an excellent team effort. The ball was taken forward at pace by McLatchie and brothers Eddy and Grant Ferguson before the backs were released.
A long looping pass from Czarnocki saw wing-forward Crawford Reid collect before scoring acrobatically. sAndy Hill’s conversion completed the scoring.
On Saturday, Dalziel play third-placed sRoyal High Corstorphine at Carrick Knowe in Edinburgh. Kick-off is at 3pm.
