Lawson plays his part in fine Scotland A win

FORMER Biggar star Scott Lawson played a major part as Scotland A trounced their Irish counterparts 67-7.

Lawson, who now plays for Sale Sharks, replaced Glasgow Warriors hooker Dougie Hall after 14 minutes of the match at McDiarmid Park in Perth.

Scotland got off to a great start, scoring their first try inside the opening minute.

Highest points scorer was Edinburgh’s Phil Godman with a try, five conversions and a penalty.

Other try-scorers were: Max Evans (2), Dougie Hall, Alan MacDonald, Rory Lawson, Calum MacRae, Alasdair Dickinson, Ben Cairns and Craig Smith.

Gordon Ross also scored two conversions.

After the game, Scotland A coach Andy Robinson said: “The players have really trained well all week and they’re a pleasure to coach.

“The ambition they showed during the game today really was top drawer.”

l Biggar’s Fraser Brown was a second-half substitute as Scotland Under-20 went down 17-12 in Ireland, despite a spirited comeback at Dubarry Park, Athlone.

Brown replaced Stewart’s Melville FP player Adrian Duncan in 44 minutes but couldn’t inspire the Scots to victory.
