Hamilton golfer Pamela Pretswell called up to represent Great Britain and Ireland at golf's Curtis Cup

HAMILTON’S Pamela Pretswell has been selected for the 2010 Curtis Cup team.

The Mote Hill golfer was called up by the Ladies’ Golf Union to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the 36th Curtis Cup match against the United States, which takes place at Essex County Club, Manchester-by-the-sea, Massachusetts, from June 11-13.

Bothwell Castle Golf Club member Pamela (20), is one of just two Scots in the nine-strong team.

Pamela gained international experience as part of the GB and Ireland team which played against Europe in last year’s Vagliano Trophy match at Hamburg, during which she beat the 2009 European Ladies’ order of merit winner.

Her performances over the last two years caught the eye of selectors, particularly after winning the Swiss Women’s Open Amateur Championships, and finishing fourth in the European Ladies’ Individual Championships in Sweden.

Pamela, a third-year business and management honours student at Glasgow University, said: “It’s a great honour to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup.

“I am looking forward to finishing my exams and then getting prepared to take on the USA.

“We will be travelling to the USA 10 days before the match to practice and get used to the conditions, but the experience gained playing against Europe and in major championships around the world over the last few years will help me in my Curtis Cup debut.

“I would like to thank Bothwell Castle Golf Club for the support and encouragement they have given me since I took up golf a few years ago.

“I also want to thank and Hamilton Sports Council and Hamilton International Sports Trust for supporting my sporting career, first with tennis and more recently golf.”
