Lanarkshire Golf Association will hold their annual dinner and prizegiving on Friday.

LANARKSHIRE Golf Association will hold their annual dinner and presentation of prizes at Colville Park Country Club’s social club in Motherwell on Friday.

The dinner will be hosted by new Lanarkshire president Willie Sharpe of Hamilton Golf Club and it is intended to present league flags to captains of the champion clubs of 2009.

Winners were, in order from First Division to Fifth Division: Tony O’Brien (Kirkhill Golf Club); Neil Eadie (Hamilton Golf Club); David Gardner (Airdrie Golf Club); Lewis Murray (Shotts Golf Club) and Allan McLean (Biggar Golf Club).

The dinner will also be used to pay tribute to the Lanarkshire players who represented Scotland in 2009.

Colville Park player Paul O’Hara would have replied on their behalf, but he will be in Morocco kick-starting his professional career. Ross Kellet is abroad with the Scotland squad.

The dinner will also provide an opportunity to entertain fellow county officials from Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire, Ayrshire and Glasgow Golf Union.

Maurice Shields of Dunbartonshire is the newly-elected second vice-president of the Scottish Golf Union and is also a guest of the Lanarkshire association.

There will also be an opportunity to thank sponsors such as Caledonian Glass and Art, who supplied all the crystal, Frank Craig in Larkhall for donating raffle prizes, Glenmuir for clothing and Donnelly and Atkinson for financial advice and support.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by two of Scotland’s well-known after-dinner speakers in Stuart Smith and Peter Brown.

Tickets priced at £20 are available from secretary Tom Logan on 01236 428799.
