UDDINGSTON teenager Conor Vaughan this weekend bids to be crowned the best young golfer in Britain.
Westerwood golfer Conor (13), will on Sunday take part in the grand final of the Haribo Young Golfer of the Year competition at York’s Aldwark Manor.
Launched in August by the confectionery giant, alongside GolfPunk magazine, the competition aims to find the best under-18 golfer in the UK.
Conor, who plays off a handicap of 36, reached the final alongside 10 other golfers during a semi-final at The Westerwood on September 30.
Now, he faces another 19 top golfers to win the inaugural prize.
Conor said: “I can’t believe I’ve made it into the final. It was great to play with other talented golfers my age and I can’t wait to do it again.
“I really want to win one of the great prizes up for grabs and now that I’m closer I’m going to practice as much as I can.”
Per Henérius, Haribo managing director, commented: “Conor’s golfing ability is very impressive.
“With golf rising in popularity we wanted to create an outdoor event for young people and families to enjoy.
“We’re proud to say that we have now also unearthed some very talented youngsters and provided an opportunity for them to showcase their sporting skills.”
Conor stands to win a trip for two to the Haribo course in Jakobsberg Golf Club in Germany, a junior golf club set from Callaway Golf, Haribo club membership, and a year’s supply of Haribo sweets.
Three runners-up will also win Callaway golf equipment, Haribo club membership and a year’s supply of sweets.
