Scottish Cup winner Paul Hoffmann is happy to continue playing into his 40s.

PAUL Hoffmann pocketed his second cricket Scottish Cup medal on Saturday and set his sights on playing into his 40s.

The all-rounder helped Uddingston to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Stirling County in Saturday’s final at Hamilton Crescent, but while many of his team-mates partied into the small hours of Sunday, Paul celebrated with wife Lynette and his son Hayden.

Paul (40) was hard at work on the Bothwell Castle Policies turf at 8am on Sunday – as he is also the club’s groundsman – and later that same day celebrated Hayden’s first birthday. Hoffmann said: “We didn’t get up to much after the win, just came back and had a few drinks and some pizza, but some of them continued into the early hours.

“I had to work on the ground on Sunday morning, and it was my son Hayden’s first birthday, so I headed home early.

“I’m also nearly 41, so that’s all past me now.”

Paul was delighted with the win, but was slightly surprised at how comprehensive it was.

He said: “It feels great; there are three of us now with two medals – myself, Bryan Clarke and Scott McKenzie.

“It’s always special to win a trophy and I think our supporters are long overdue some silverware, so it’s dedicated to them.

“It’s the biggest trophy of the season so it’s special and I’m enjoying it.”

On his own future Paul said: “I don’t train much as I’m preoccupied with my job as groundsman, so I finish work and want to go home to spend time with my son.

“If I can have the same arrangement, then I’ll keep playing.”
