Triathlete Grant Sheldon has set his sights higher for next season.

ATHLETE Grant Sheldon has just completed an amazing second triathlon season which saw the teenager crowned British Junior Elite Male champion and earn an athletics scholarship at Stirling.

But his dad, Brian, reckons the 17-year-old is already determined to improve his performances next term.

Brian (46) said: “Grant’s attitude is fantastic. The season has just ended, he’s had two weeks’ down-time but he has begun winter training already.

“He’s got the bit between his teeth and I think he’s looking to improve on this season.”

Grant, from West Craigs, finished seventh at the British Aquathlon Championships in Hyde Park, London, in August in his first race following an elbow fracture at the European Championships.

Then he won the Hetton Lyons triathlon in September, netting him the Elite title.

Having passed five Highers at ‘A’ level at Calderside Academy, Grant earned an athletics scholarship at Stirling University, where he’s studying mathematics and its applications.

Brian added: “This will enable Grant to focus on his chosen sport, benefiting from the first-class training facilities on the campus, as well as being under the guidance of Scotland coaches Chris Volley and Blair Cartmell.”
