LAW and District Amateur Athletics Club runners have been busy over the last few weeks, competing in various indoor events at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.
First up was the closed Scottish Indoor Under-16/17 Championships on January 16 and 17, in which six youngsters competed.
Alice McGrath narrowly missed out on a medal when she finished fourth in the under-15 800m in 2.32.13mins, and Ross Hill – in his first year at under-17 level – came home fifth in 2.10.63.
Julie Dobbin was third in the under-17 300m heat three, finishing in 45.37secs.
At the same age group, Kevin McGhee finished the 60m in 8.03secs and recorded a long-jump distance of 5.28m.
Thomas Baxter competed in the under-15 60m, finishing in 8.51secs, and 200m, coming in at 27.79secs.
Lewis Nicholson completed the club’s line-up with two performances at under-17 level, recording a shot putt distance of 11.12m and finishing the 200m in 25.64secs, although he was in his Glasgow School of Sport colours for the day.
The inaugural Inter-regional Indoor Championships took place on January 17 and, as a result, Law and District have five senior athletes in the Scotland West Coast team to compete against Glasgow City, Tayside and Fife, Central and East and Grampian.
Gary Grieve from Carluke competed in the under-23 ‘A’ 800m, finishing fourth in a personal best time of 1.55.74.
Twin sisters Laura and Lynn Livesey from Wishaw finished second in their respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ 60m races in identical times of 8.31secs, and both are in their first year at under-20 level.
In the same age group Kirstie McLeod from Lesmahagow finished third in the ‘B’ 200m in 28.45secs.
David Martin from Motherwell finished second in the under-23 ‘A’ long-jump, recording a distance of 6.91m
The competition ended with highly-contested relay medleys – 2x200m and 2x400m in male and female categories.
Lynn Livesey and Kirstie McLeod ran a 200m leg respectively.
The Glasgow City Cup’s stood between the final relay positions, but Tayside and Fife took the trophy.
