JOHN GOODWIN netted his first Shotts hat-trick in a comprehensive 5-0 win over Girvan in the only Super League First Division game to beat the Saturday call-offs.
He opened the scoring in 26 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box. Brian Jack chipped in a second five minutes before the interval, Goodwin grabbed number three with a deflected effort, and Kevin Barr had his 43rd-minute penalty saved in an incident-packed first half.
Barr was pulled down inside the box two minutes into the second half and Goodwin notched his hat-trick from the spot before Barr completed the rout, hammering a Chris Gardiner pass low into the corner in the last minute.
“It was a very welcome three points,” said Shotts secretary Willie Quilter.
“Girvan started off quite well and for 20 minutes or so played some nice football – but once we scored they just collapsed and had a player sent off for handling, which led to our first-half penalty.”
Former Lesmahagow and Lanark United striker John Osborne made his Shotts debut after being released by Stranraer.
