Mickael Antoine-Curier insists he won’t rush his Accies comeback.
MICKAEL Antoine-Curier hates watching his Accies team-mates struggle without him, but insisted that he won’t return until he’s ready.
Antoine-Curier is very aware that coming back too soon could do more harm than good, and wants to be at his strongest before spearheading Hamilton’s attack, having undergone a knee clean-up operation.
Boss Billy Reid and club officials have their idea of when they hope Mickael can retake his place, but the Frenchman won’t set a target.
He said: “The injury is okay and I’m looking forward – it’s looking good so far.
“I don’t have a target for when I can come back.
“As much as I would like to be back playing I don’t want to come back too early.
“This league is physical and tough and defenders are always trying to destabilise me so I end up with bruises all the time.
“I love the game but I’m not going to jeopardise by health and career by coming back too soon.
“I hope to come back strong and carry on where I left off.”
Since Mickael dropped out of the team Hamilton have struggled and are only a point ahead of bottom side Falkirk going into this weekend’s round of games.
Mickael hates to see Hamilton lose and said: “It’s frustrating that I can’t help my team-mates because I want to be in battle with them and I can’t be just now.
“For a centre-forward to score goals ... it’s just amazing.
“It’s the best thing ever because you help your team, the fans and the manager.
“So it has been hard to take because I can’t play.
“We were going through a good spell, then I got injured and we started losing points and getting dragged into a relegation fight.
“I’m confident of the team and it’s a matter of getting everybody back fit and hopefully we can get back to picking up points.
“I’m confident that Hamilton can stay up. We’ve got so many games left, there are a lot of points to play for, and this is a funny league.
“You can lose three or four games and be down, but then if you win five in a row you can be in the top six.
“We’ll keep battling, try to get results and pick up points.
“If we can at least draw most of our away games and try to win at home then we’ll be all right.
“We need to concentrate on defending well, goals win games, and hopefully we can start doing that.”
