Accies help Bothwell beauty through to Miss Universe Scotland final

BOTHWELL woman Mhairi Brown hopes to boost her chances of winning the prestigious Miss Universe Scotland contest, while helping to give terminally-ill children a wonderful experience.

Mhairi (24), is bidding to be one of three Scots put forward to the Miss Universe Great Britain in May, with the winner ultimately being put forward to the glittering Miss Universe pageant owned by American tycoon Donald Trump.

The Glasgow final of Miss Universe Scotland takes place at Club Milan on Saturday, February 27.

In a bid to boost her standing and raise sponsorship cash for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, who are involved with the competition, Mhairi and seven volunteers will attend Saturday’s SPL derby match between Hamilton Accies and Motherwell at New Douglas Park.

All eight will wear t-shirts with the Miss Universe Scotland and Make-A-Wish Foundation logos, plus Mhairi’s name and voting details.

Mhairi has a few links with the club.

She currently works for a recruitment agency based at New Douglas Park, appeared a couple of years ago on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM show as an ‘Accies’ Soccerette, and helped the club launch their home kit in the summer.

Mhairi said: “I am a local girl and I have worked with Accies on a number of projects.

“With the large numbers expected on Saturday we are hoping to raise a lot of awareness and drum up support.

“It would be great to win the competition but I’ve also really enjoyed fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is a fantastic charity.

“I hope we can raise lots of money for them.”

Mhairi added: “It helped to have connections to the club and they invited me to Saturday’s game.

“They’ve really supported me in everything I’ve done and worked closely with me.

“We’re hoping for a large turnout on Saturday, I’m sure everybody will be in high spirits, and I’d ask fans to bring lots of money.

“Any spare money would be appreciated.”

The Make-A-Wish Foundation charity grants magical wishes to children fighting life-threatening illnesses.
