Accies player Mensing frustrated after clash with Motherwell

SIMON Mensing this week admitted his frustration after 10-man Hamilton were held to a 2-2 draw by derby rivals Motherwell.

And he says this weekend’s international break couldn’t come at a worse time, as Accies have built up momentum from several outstanding recent performances.

Despite Guillaume Beuzelin’s 30th-minute red card, Billy Reid’s men twice took the lead against Motherwell at New Douglas Park – with Mensing and Marco Paixao on the scoresheet – and that followed an excellent win at St Mirren Park and good displays against Celtic and Dundee United.

Former Fir Park midfielder Mensing said: “It was great to get on the scoresheet on Saturday, that’s three for the season now, but it’s just a shame that we didn’t get the three points that I thought we deserved.

“It wasn’t ideal when Beuzy got sent off – and it was never a red card – but I was still confident that we could get something out of the game because we were dominating.

“The referee made a decision that in the end cost us, but it just shows the willingness in the team and the togetherness that saw us take the lead twice, and it was just a pity that we couldn’t hold on in the end.”

Hamilton won’t get the benefit of a ‘break’ this week as boss Reid plans to put them through a gruelling training regime, but that’s not what Mensing is frustrated at.

He explained: “It’s just one of those things we have to get on with, so we’ll take the rest and work hard during the week.”
