FRUSTRATED Mark Corcoran can’t wait for next season to start – after enduring a nightmare first year at Hamilton.
The winger signed from St Mirren in the summer but a series of injuries hampered his progress and he basically never got his season started.
Although he made a handful of appearances late in the season, Corcoran admits the campaign ended too soon for him – but appreciates that his team-mates were desperate for a break!
The 28-year-old said: “This season is massive for me and I can’t wait for it to start – I’m really looking forward to it.
“I got back to fitness late on so the season really ended at the wrong time for me.
“It’s been a really hard season for everybody else and they’re all looking forward to their holidays, but I can’t wait to get back into it.
“I’ve got a year left on my contract and I want to make it a good one, show people what I can do, and push on from there.”
Mark didn’t manage to get a full pre-season under his belt and felt he was up against it from then on.
He said: “It’s been one thing after another for me, but these things happen in football.
“I got injured in pre-season – I got a little hamstring tear – and was struggling with that, then at the Hartlepool tournament I got a high tackle that left me with severe bruising and that kept me out for a week as well.
“I basically missed the whole pre-season with just one half-game under my belt, came back in, got injured again and needed a hip operation – and that was me for the season, really. It has been very frustrating, and one of the worst seasons I’ve ever had.
“The team did well and achieved their aim of staying up so that was brilliant, but it wasn’t a great season for me.”
Corcoran was delighted that Hamilton retained their SPL status, but rather than chasing personal glory he wants to be a part of it next season.
He said: “Staying up was massive for the club. Everyone was brilliant and really pulled together.
“We all worked really hard, and I think we deserve to be in the SPL because we played some really good football at times.
“It was frustrating to have to watch from the sidelines but when the team does well it’s easier.
“When Hamilton were struggling towards the end of the season and I was nearly back fit I just wanted to get on, because I felt I had something to offer the team.”
