Lack of goals is a major worry admits Mensing

SIMON Mensing admits Saturday’s pre-split clash at Inverness is a must-win for Hamilton following their 1-0 defeat by Dundee United last weekend.

After sitting out three games due to suspension, the midfielder (pictured left) made his return in the New Douglas Park loss, and admitted Accies simply weren’t good enough.

He said: “It’s a good old cliche to say it’s a ‘six-pointer’ on Saturday, but it is.

“It’s a massive game, we know how big it is, and it’s a game that we’ve got to take something out of.

“The Inverness game was always going to be an important one anyway, but us getting beat by Dundee United makes it that bit bigger and more important.

“Every game between now and the end of the season is going to be a battle. We need to make sure we’re up for that, and compete on every area of the pitch.”

On Saturday’s defeat Simon said: “The first half wasn’t good enough from anybody on the pitch, including myself, and we paid for that.

“In the second half it seemed like we turned up a bit more and maybe could have got something out of the game, but our first-half performance certainly wasn’t good enough.

“If we go into the game at Inverness with the same first-half performance then we’ll have problems, but if we play like we did in the second, showing the same enthusiasm and battle, then we should be all right.”

A major concern for Hamilton is that they now haven’t scored in their last six SPL games. Mensing admits it’s an issue his side needs to address right now or they could face the drop.

He said: “If you’re not scoring goals then you’re not going to win games, so that’s obviously something we have to address.

“We’ve been on a run like this earlier on in the season and we’ve just got to getthe heads down, keep on working, winning battles, and hopefully our luck will change.”
