McCarthy: It’s time we made the Saints suffer!

HAMILTON midfielder James McCarthy is eager to finally get the upper hand over St Mirren this season but admitted every Accies player needs to do more in front of goal.

Gus MacPherson’s Saints have dumped Accies home and away this season in tight games.

However, McCarthy hopes his side can bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen with a win this weekend.

He said: “It’s a massive game. We haven’t beaten St Mirren this season. It’s one we’re all looking forward to, even though we’ve been on a run of defeats.

“We hope we can put that right against St Mirren, especially since we haven’t taken anything from them.

“There are a few big players out but I hope we’ll be strong enough to take three points.

“If we win it, takes us away from the relegation zone but we just hope we can take three points at home, especially with a good crowd behind us.

“This is a big one, because we want to keep St Mirren below us in the table.”

McCarthy has pledged to try to score more often but reckons everybody as that responsibility.

He said: “I’ve said I want to score more goals so that’s what I need to start doing but I think a few of us need to start chipping in.

“We’re not panicking about that. We’re just going to look forward to Saturday and hopefully putting that right by scoring a few goals.”

McCarthy was disappointed with Saturday’s defeat by Aberdeen but admitted Accies didn’t do enough to earn a point.

He said: “In the first half, I thought we started well but then it levelled off and it was a good strike by Chris Maguire.

“But in the second half I don’t think we did enough to get a draw.

“However, we’re not getting too upset about that and we’re all looking forward to Saturday against St Mirren.”
