Rangers player 'Struck by coin' at New Douglas Park

AN investigation by Hamilton Accies FC is underway to determine who was involved in the 'coin-throwing' incident at the Accies and Rangers game.

Rangers defender David Weir was seen to crouch after being hit behind the ear by an object allegedly thrown from a section of the Hamilton support.

The incident occurred during a dispute between Hamilton's Alex Neil and Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson on the touchline, which Weir was attempting to resolve.

Commenting on the incident, Accies boss Billy Reid said: "Something may have been thrown from the crowd, and hit David Weir. If that is the case, than that is hugely disappointing. That is not what this football club is all about, and we apologise to David Weir."

The game was played in front of a record crowd of 5,895.
