Title not so simple for unlucky Simon

GOB-SMACKED Simon Mensing said winning the title with Hamilton is an indescribable feeling - but is just delighted to have made it third time lucky.

Mensing recently went close with Clyde and again with St Johnstone last year, and had an unfortunately brief stint in the top flight with Motherwell, before getting the chance to strut his stuff in the SPL with champions Accies.

He turned in an outstanding performance to help his side beat Clyde 2-0 on Saturday and clinch the First Division championship, and said: "It's an indescribable feeling, but it's about time!

"It's been an unbelievable season for everybody at the club, from the backroom staff up to the players - it has been excellent.

"This time last season was, obviously, incredibly disappointing, but we've done it with a game to go.

"The feeling is indescribable to have finally got over the finishing line.

"We knew a while ago that if we won our next four games we’d be champions, and we did so comfortably.

"It was the old cliche of treating every game like a cup final, and I think the boys applied themselves excellently in the build-up to the games, and did everything right."

Mensing hopes now to go up to Dundee and show Alex Rae's side that they haven't "downed tools" now that the title is won.

He said: "We want to still put in a performance and be as professional as possible, so we're going up to Dundee in the final game looking to win."
