BILLY Reid was stunned to win the Professional Footballers’ Association Scotland Manager of the Year award on Sunday, but said it’s testament to how well champions Hamilton have done this season.
The award was voted for by all 42 club managers and Reid was on an impressive shortlist that also featured Rangers’ Walter Smith, Celtic’s Gordon Strachan, Motherwell’s Mark McGhee, Dundee United’s Craig Levein and Falkirk’s John Hughes.
Reid was delighted to accept the award from Scotland boss George Burley at a packed Glasgow Hilton Hotel.
He said: “I was stunned but thrilled to win, especially when you consider what Walter Smith has achieved at Rangers, or at least may achieve.
"To do that with Hamilton Accies isn’t about Billy Reid, and I was quite embarrassed, actually, at some of the things that have been said in that regard — it’s about the whole club... playing the game in the right manner, passing the ball and with a young side.”
Reid also paid a huge tribute to the club’s “absolutely incredible” supporters.
