JAMES Grady was delighted to beat the transfer window deadline and sign for Hamilton – because he believes they’re winners.
The 36-year-old striker secured his release from SPL strugglers Gretna on Thursday in time to sign an 18-month deal at New Douglas Park.
And Grady, whose goal clinched the First Division title for Gretna last term, and is a previous winner with Dundee in 1997-98, is confident of adding a third medal to his collection.
He said: “I’m delighted. At Gretna we had a wee bit of success but it’s been a bit downhill since then.
“I couldn’t be happier coming to a club where you’re challenging for promotion again.
“I’ve won the First Division twice now as a player, so I know how to get out of it, and I think that’s one of the reasons the manager, Billy Reid, has brought me here – to add my experience to the promising youngsters that are coming through.
“If I can help in any way to make sure we get the title then all the better for it.”
Grady admits he jumped at the chance to join the First Divison league-leaders.
He said: “You want to play at the highest level you can for as long as you can, and I hope to do that here.
“I had a wee taste of that again up at Aberdeen on Saturday, and that’s definitely the level at which you want to play your football.
“But the bread and butter for us is the First Division, and if we can win it we’ll be playing Aberdeen more times than that.”
Grady hopes to lock horns with Dunfermline when they visit on Saturday, and said Hamilton should have no fears about Jim McIntyre’s resurgent side.
He said: “It’s another big game, Dunfermline have improved a lot under Jim McIntyre, but I’ve seen enough here to know that we’re a decent side and can hold our own against the likes of Dunfermline, St Johnstone and Dundee, so we should have no fears about it.
“We’re top of the table and should take confidence from that.”
