HAMILTON striker David Winters shrugged off Saturday’s controversy and said Hamilton were just happy to beat Morton.
Winters, pictured left, admitted the New Douglas Park outfit were up against it for periods of the second half as Morton searched for an equaliser.
But he said referee Craig Thomson was correct to disallow the Greenock’s side’s late ‘equaliser’.
He said: “We were delighted with the win, especially in the manner that it happened.
“We were all devastated then kind of boosted again for the last two or three minutes of the game after the decision had gone our way.
“It was unbelievable at the end. I couldn’t see it myself, but the boys were saying it was a really blatant hand-ball.
“The ‘goal’ was disallowed and when you’re top of the league you get breaks like that, and when you’re bottom of the league they go against you.
“But the win, and the three points, was the main thing and all the boys are chuffed about that.”
Winters was thrilled as Hamilton kept a clean sheet for the third successive game, but was disappointed not to get on the scoresheet himself.
He said: “The back four have been tremendous in recent weeks. We’ve lost Tom Parratt through injury and David Elebert was out on Saturday as well, but Chris Swailes and Grant Evans came in and were brilliant.
“We’ve kept another clean sheet and that is the basis for any league challenge.
“I was disappointed not to get on the scoresheet because I scored two last week and I was looking to build on that.
“But it wasn’t about that. We were up against it a bit in the second half because Morton were going for an equaliser, so we had to just wait it out.”
Hamilton have another tough test on Saturday against Queen of the South and even though the Palmerston Park club are propping up the First Division, Winters knows it won’t be easy.
He added: “Queen of the South is another tough one. It’s never easy for any team to go down there and get three points, but we’ll just go and play our usual game and hopefully grind out a result.”
