Skipper Neil hopes team sail through Clyde game

HAMILTON captain Alex Neil hopes Saturday’s clash at Clyde is a typically fiery one... because it makes for a better game.

Midfield ace Neil (26), has led his side to successive wins over Dunfermline and East Stirlingshire, and aims to make it three-in-a-row against the Bully Wee at Broadwood.

He said: “It’s nice to win any game so to get two wins in the first two games is brilliant — you can’t ask for any more than that.

“We just hope, come Saturday against Clyde, that we can get another one.

“There’s always a bit of spice when we’re playing against Clyde anyway, especially because the gaffer and a lot of the boys were there before, so it will be a good game and I’m looking forward to it.

“You like games to be like that. When you’re going to play you like to be fired up, you want to go in all guns blazing.

“We’ll be out to win the game.”

Neil was deservedly named sponsors Man of the Match in Tuesday’s 2-1 CIS Cup win over East Stirlingshire, despite conceding a soft penalty, and admitted the Third Division minnows made it difficult.

But he said: “I thought we controlled the game all the way through, really, but didn’t take our chances and they got a soft penalty.

“They made it hard for us, they defended well, but I felt that it was only a matter of time before we scored and that proved to be the case.

“We had a few chances and we need to be more clinical when it comes to the league, but it’s two wins, so we’re reasonably happy.”

Neil will lock horns with former team-mate Marvyn Wilson on Saturday, and said: “I’ve been speaking to him this week but once you’ve crossed the white line it’s down to business and then we’ll laugh about it after the game.”
