A KEY members of Hamilton Accies’ backroom staff died on Sunday after a cancer battle.

Jim ‘Kit’ Kennedy, who was 66 and lived in Whitehill, worked as scout and kitman for the club.

Jim had been associated with Accies for over 20 years.

As a club scout, he was instrumental in bringing to the club players such as Allan Ferguson, Paul McDonald, Jim Weir and Chris Hillcoat.

For 15 years, he worked as the club’s kitman.

He retired 18 months ago but went to the club’s New Douglas Park ground each day to help clean the track and toilets.

He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and his condition stopped him working around the stadium.

However, he continued to attend all youth and first team games, until his illness worsened.

He leaves a wife Anne and son, Jim, and other family.

Club secretary Scott Struthers said this week: "Jim had been around the club for well over 20 years as scout and kitman.

"He was always honest in his opinions of players and was a good worker at the club.

"He will be sadly missed."

Players and backroom staff from Accies and other mem other members of the football world joined Jim's family at his funeral on Thursday, August 2, at Gilmour Church, Burnbank,
