Archie Daley (68), from Blantyre, thinks it would be a great loss for the town. He added: "It really is a landmark in Blantyre and I know people get a lot of enjoyment from it, especially the schools."
William Johnston (23), of Blantyre, was disgusted by the news. He said: "I think its a disgrace. There should be an enquiry and questions asked of the people in charge. They need a good kick up the backside."
Hamilton man Alan Martin (71) wasnt fazed by the story. He said: "Personally I have no time for the guy. He abandoned his family and was out for his own glory. It all comes from this Victorian idea of hero-worshipping people who dont deserve it."
Patricia McConnell (44) has lived in Blantyre for many years but has never visited the Centre. She said: "Never seen it, never want to see it. To be honest, I couldnt care less."
