WE asked some Hamilton shoppers if they would like to see a Great Britain football team at the 2012 Olympic Games. Christopher Crookston (21) from Eddlewood said: “I think there should be a Great Britain team. I don’t think it would affect the Scottish leagues, and it would be good to see young Scottish players getting the opportunity to play alongside more experienced English players.
Ishmail Omar (32) from Hamilton said: “I think there should be a British team at the Olympics. They shouldn’t break the teams down to each country because there would be a much stronger team if the players were taken from across the UK.”
James Seaton (77) from Hamilton said: “I would like to see a Scottish team at the Olympics. A British football team would impact on the Scottish game and would probably end up being made up of English players anyway, with just a token Irishman or Scotsman.”
John Stubbs (57) from Uddingston said: “I think the SFA would be affected if Britain produced a single team for the Olympic Games. There would be pressure to keep the Great Britain team the rest of the time, and the Scottish, Welsh and Irish sides would lose out.”
