Voxpop: Beijing Olympics

COVERAGE of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games starts tomorrow (Friday) so we asked some Hamilton shoppers if they’d be tuning in or switching off this year.

Frank Paterson (66) from Uddingston said: “I will definitely be watching some of the coverage. I always enjoy the athletics, especially the track events. I like to show support for the UK participants, especially the Scots.”

William Park (88) from Motherwell said: “I won’t be watching, I’m just not that interested in it and never really have been. I’m more into football than Olympic events. I’ve watched occasionally when there has been a Scotsman though, because it’s good to show support.

Gwen Coughlan (58) from Carluke said: “I don’t think I would choose to watch the coverage but, like a lot of other women, I will probably be forced to watch most of it! My son and husband will watch a good deal of it so I will see a lot of it because of them.”

Paul Govers (18) from Hamilton said: “I will probably watch quite a bit, especially the swimming. I used to do a lot of swimming myself, and the 100m butterfly is my favourite event. I don’t think there is too much coverage, because it’s important for people to take an interest.”

Vox pop: Big Brother and reality TV

Deborah Shevlin (36) from Hamilton, said: “Shows like Big Brother are rubbish. The people who get on the shows just want to be famous and there is nothing entertaining about them. The only one I’ve ever watched is I’m a Celebrity because at least it’s a bit different.” Read

Voxpop: GB football at 2012 Olympics

Christopher Crookston (21) from Eddlewood said: “I think there should be a Great Britain team. I don’t think it would affect the Scottish leagues, and it would be good to see young Scottish players getting the opportunity to play alongside more experienced English players. Read
