THE Prime Minister wants Labour MPs to reveal if they employ any members of their family after the scandal involving a Tory MP whose son ‘worked’ for him. We asked people in Hamilton what they thought about the
issue.
Neil Higgins (61), of Hamilton, said: “There’s too much nepotism in politics. I’m against nepotism in any shape or form, but especially in politics. It seems to me that politics is just one big, long gravy train.”
John Daly (55), of Hamilton: “I don’t think it’s right that politicians should be allowed to employ members of their family. It’s totally wrong. It’s us taxpayers who have to pay for it.”
Catherine Sneddon (55), of Hamilton: “Politicians are on very good salaries and allowances. They have advantages that others don’t have. And it seems to me they can’t be touched, compared to ordinary working people. They should not be allowed to employ members of their family. It’s not right.”
Emma Smith (19) Stonehouse: “In some places of work there are rules and regulations about the employment of family members. But I think it is fine for MPs to employ members of their family — as long as it is above board and they are doing a genuine job.”
