SCOTTISH banknotes were this week said to be under threat of being scrapped due to a Westminster government shake-up by the Treasury. We asked people in Hamilton town centre what they thought.
Ryan Rodgers (19), of Little Earnock, Hamilton, said: “There is no reason to take away the Scottish notes. They are part of our identity. It is just another example of the national government taking away something from Scotland.”
Robert Hardy (80), from Wishaw, said: “It is important to keep the notes, like the one that commemorates Bannockburn. I quite like the Scottish notes.”
George Elliot (82), from Lanarkshire, said: “We have got our own Parliament so there is no reason we shouldn’t have our own bank notes.”
Jennifer Gardner (36), of West Craigs, said: “It is quite nice to have the Scottish notes. I am originally from Yorkshire so it is good to see something a bit different. It is important that each part of the UK also has its own identity.”
