Supermarkets and small town trade
THE ADVERTISER reported this week on how Scottish Government ministers threw out plans for a new supermarket in Biggar.
One of the reasons the Ministers stopped the new Aldi development from going ahead was the drain it would have on local trade.
This is great news for Biggar businesses, but it is a reflection of what is going on in the rest of the country?
Do supermarkets sap all the custom from small-town businesses? Would you buy your produce fresh from your high street butchers or simply go to the supermarket?
