Stray cows and roadworks cause delays

Drivers endured long delays this morning as animals strayed onto the M73, adding to the M74 roadworks at Hamilton.

Cows became loose on the M73 at Baillieston after a crash on Tuesday night, causing chaos and forcing a motorway closure.

Motorists were already facing lane closures and contraflows due to the £4m upgrade programme on the M74, from the Raith interchange at Hamilton to the Maryville junction.

The work, which will last for a further three weeks, involves repairing the carriageways and three local bridges – Bothwell Haugh north, Bellshill Road and Uddingston junction rail bridge.
