Growing so weary of waiting for village garden project to blossom

I WAS very interested in the article in last week’s Advertiser about the garden in King Street being upgraded provided £3000 can be raised.

Stonehouse Brighter Village Group have a very small committee of hard-working people who have made a huge difference to the appearance of the village, with tubs of plants, flower beds and rubbish clearances. I doubt, though, when and if they would be able to raise £3000.

Is this just another delay for Stonehouse? We waited 30 years for the by-pass and a lifetime for a civic centre.

Stonehouse people are very generous. We are all so proud that we got the pipe band organised again, by public subscriptions.

We have four councillors (none of whom live locally). Is there no way the council could provide financial help to get this garden completed quickly?

Incidentally, prior to the millennium Stonehouse Community Council were looking for ideas to mark the new century. It was suggested in 1999 that this land should be made into a proper garden, with paths, seats etc.

But, of course, nothing happened.

Mrs J.G. Bunch, Camnethan Street, Stonehouse.
