IN lifting a floorboard in the attic, the underside of the board showed a few old cuttings from newspapers on Hamilton Accies from an unknown date, probably pre-war.
The quality is poor but one of a Hamilton Accies’ ‘team song’ might, or might not, be relevant to the team’s performance today. Nevertheless, it might be possible to re-establish the team spirit that was represented by the song, with slight changes to suit the present game scene.
The words on the cutting are as follows:
Have you heard about the Hamilton Academicals’ team song? To the tune of ‘Covered Wagon’, it goes like this:
“Roll along, good old Accies, roll along
For the Scottish Cup to you will soon belong
Some say ‘Rangers, they are fine’
But the cup is yours this time
So pile them on, Davie Wilson, pile them on.
Well, they are all singing that down in Lanarkshire. What’s Rangers’ reply? Surely they will give us something more original than ‘We will follow Rangers!”
