Hall of fame for sports heroes gets my vote

I WAS more than pleased to read in your paper of our home-grown swimmer, Eleanor Gordon.

She is Scotland’s only female swimmer to have won an individual Olympic medal, a record she has retained for 56 years.

The article brought back many happy memories of the old baths in Hamilton.

I also think it would be nice if South Lanarkshire Council organised a “hall of fame” for other sporting heroes such as boxer Walter McGowan and football players like the late great Davie Cooper and Phil O’Donnell, and many more.

It would be nice for our young people to realise that we can produce first-class sports people who can achieve greatness.
