Plenty to be proud of at Calderside Academy

I have read with interest recent letters highlighting the teething problems of Calderside Academy.

As a nearby resident, I welcome the changes. The pupils look fantastic. They are dressed smartly, and in the same uniform.

For such a large population of schoolchildren I think their behaviour and conduct in public seems good; a school we can be proud of!

As a former pupil of Hamilton Grammar, I have been dismayed in recent years at the decline in uniform policy and the behaviour of some pupils at the school.

During my time there, it was as disciplined as Calderside Academy is today. And I believe pupils were better for that discipline.

I also think the building is a vast improvement.

The support of staff, pupils and the people  of Blantyre is what will make Calderside Academy a school to be proud of. Well done all.
