Calderside Academy is more like a prison than a school

I AM writing regarding the letter in last week’s Advertiser about Calderside Academy, where a gentleman was standing up for the pupils. I fully agree with him.

This school has been a disgrace since it opened. It is more like a prison than a school.

Pupils are treated like young children, with all the rules on what to wear and what not to wear and having to take their jackets off as soon as they enter.

And there’s not enough space.

School used to be fun, but not any more. I listen to my kids every day when they come home from school.

They say there have been fights at school and fights on the buses.

Also they have to be at the bus stop for just after eight in the morning and very often the bus doesn’t turn up till well after 8.30am. And the buses often break down.

There’s no point in complaining to the school as nothing seems to get done.

I think the pupils should be shown more respect than they are at present.

They say school was great before the merger; now they can’t wait to leave.

Unhappy parent, letter sent by e-mail.
