WHAT a difference a year makes in Scottish politics. At last year’s election, the Scottish people voted for a better Scotland, and already the Scottish National Party have started the process of making our country a better place to be.
As an SNP councillor, I am proud that my party have delivered on key policies such as a reduction in prescription charges to £5, moving towards full abolition by 2011; a council tax freeze for 2008/09, benefiting householders across Scotland; an end of the £2289 graduate endowment, benefiing students who graduated last year and students currently in the system; a Small Business Bonus Scheme, benefiting 150,000 small businesses in Scotland; free personal and nursing care payments to older people in care homes, rising in line with inflation, benefiting more than 9000 people.
That all this is taking place less than a year after the new Scottish Government came to power underlines the fast pace of delivery and the fact that the SNP are a government of action.
Councillor John McNamee, vice-convenor, Hamilton South SNP.
