Plea for help in tracing relatives

I am now 77 years of age — and for the past 50 years I’ve tried to find my parents and obtain details about them.

When I was six I was fostered to a family in Dalbeattie, Dumfriesshire. I only found out my parents’ names just before Christmas as all my files had been destroyed.

My father’s name was William Henry Cox, who was born in Castlehill Rows, Wishaw, in May, 1892. My mother’s name was Sarah Cox (maiden name Smith), born in Ireland in 1901.

They stayed at various addresses but when they married in 1937 their address was 7 Castle Street, Hamilton.

My name is William Henry Cox Smith (Smith, because they weren’t married when I was born in 1931). They married at St Mary’s Church, Hamilton, in 1937. Three months later, I was taken into care.

I may have younger brothers or sisters and feel the only way to find out is to ask for help from readers of the Advertiser.
