It was a very sad day to hear of the closure of Hewden at Tannochside.
I was employed with Hewden Stuart for over 10 years (I now live and work in Singapore).
Before being sited at Tannochside, all Hewden accounts and administration were in Bothwell. They were transferred latterly to the business park in Tannochside.
It was then a Scottish-owned and HQ-based company prior to the Finnings takeover.
Now it — as with a lot of old, established and very profitable Scottish companies — will disappear, with the loss and transfer away from its roots and where it was founded. What a shame.
Also I would think a lot of the current staff at Tannochside who are affected will have been with Hewden for many years.
Now, after years of loyal service, they have lost their employment.
This closure is the final straw for Hewden Stuart, which we all knew and respected.
It is also a sad day for Scottish industry and the Scottish plant hire world in general.
I wish all those affected good luck in future
An old Hewden Stuart colleague.
