Kids shouldn’t have to feel fearful on school journeys

Schools have been a popular topic recently on the Letters Page — not in a positive manner on most occasions. Sadly, I don’t have a positive outlook myself.

As a parent I have been horrified at how distressed my son has been coming home from school recently.

As a typical teenager, he rarely volunteers any information about his day, so for him to tell me on numerous occasions how horrendous his bus journeys to and from Calderside Academy have been really worries me.

He speaks about the bricks and stones being thrown on the bus and the chaotic behaviour that happens on a daily basis.

What leaves me disgruntled me the promise, in a letter from Calderside Academy, saying that buses would be supervised by an adult. Sadly, this is a myth.

I don’t blame the bus driver: he has enough to do concentrating on his driving.

But our children shouldn’t have to be scared on a daily basis.

The children are frequently told in assembly not to contact the Hamilton Advertiser as that’s not the way to deal with issues connected to the school.

As a parent I will contact the Advertiser as Calderside Academy need to deal with a lot of issues that seem to be brushed under the carpet.

My child was extremely happy at Earnock High School and felt safe.

This isn’t the case since moving to Calderside.

I feel my child is being let down.

Concerned parent, Hamilton.
