car parking in hamilton

I AM writing to the person who smashed into my car while they were trying to park at the Caird Street/Backford Street car park (across from the council car park in Hamilton), and then just drove off.

I wanted to let them know that it will cost me £250 to have it repaired.

They may not be aware of this, but it is an offence to drive away from an accident. Just because no-one is in the car at the time makes no difference at all. It is still a road traffic accident and should have been reported.

My car was hit with some force and there is no way they would not have been aware of the damage they caused.

I know that parking in these car parks is at the owner’s risk while at work, but the alternative would be to pay around £5 per day and there is no guarantee that the same careless, irresponsible individual would not be using those car parks too (although at least there is the benefit of CCTV cameras, which unfortunately Caird Street does not have).

Also, many of the people using the car park enter by the ‘No’ gate on Caird Street.

I’m amazed there hasn’t been a serious accident, but give it time!
