The heartbroken family of a slain dad-of-four shot in the street have described a homecoming party for his killer as “sick” and “disgusting”.
They were outraged at the welcome home celebration for Philip Mulvanny who walked out of prison last Thursday after serving a life sentence for slaying Andrew Falconer in March 19, 1996.
Andrew was 28 when he was blasted in the face by a sawn-off shotgun fired by Mulvanny, who was 17 at the time, in Dean Crescent, Fairhill, Hamilton.
Last week’s party was held at Mulvanny’s family home in Comrie Crescent, Hillhouse, where they were shiny banners pinned to a railings read: ‘Welcome Home Philip Party’ and dozens of pink and green balloons along with yellow ribbons tied around trees in the garden. Angry neighbours said that loud dance/rave music could be heard from the home from 6am on the day Mulvanny was released. Andrew is survived by his partner Charmaine Bruce, and four children Andrew (24), Stacey (23), Bernadette (19) and 16-year-old Codyandrea who wasn’t born at the time her father was killed. Charmaine (42), was two-months’ pregnant with her fourth child, Codyandrea, when Andrew was murdered.
Charmaine told the Advertiser: “He (Mulvanny) destroyed my whole life, my weans’ life, Andrew’s brother’s life, Andrew’s sisters’s life and Andrew’s mum’s life.
“How would they like it if there was a party for someone who killed his half brother, Kevin Black, when his killers came out of jail? “I feel sick “It is a life for a life.”
It was July 1996, when Mulvanny on his 18th birthday began a life sentence for the murder of Andrew Falconer. The teenager used a sawn-off shot gun to blast the 28-year-old dad in the face in Fairhill’s Dean Crescent. Mulvanny’s co-accused and cousin, Gordon Carruthers, who was 21 at the time, walked free after being found not proven on the murder charge. He was accused of passing the gun to Mulvanny. Stacey (22), who has three-year-old daughter McKenzie, said she will never forgive Mulvanny. “Having a party when they know that we are 10 minutes down the road from them – that is disgusting and disgraceful,” she added. “I have been left without my dad since I was five, and Codyandrea hasn’t even met my dad. He (Mulvanny) can do nothing to us now. He can’t break our hearts anymore. When we were told he was out , it was if my dad had died all over again. He can start life again, get married and have children. We will get justice when he is dead.” Pregnant Bernadette, who has son, Jayden (1), said: “Mulvanny is the scum of the earth and should have rot in hell.”
